Saturday Excursions: Steam Turbine
Since returning to Germany I have been missing the vast extend of Industrial leftovers from a not so distant time, that during my adventures throughout the USA I would come across rather frequently.
This weekend I took it upon myself and a friend to see what this relic of a now-forgotten era holds. Around my hometown of Stuttgart, we used to have a variety of large textile and leather factories. Electricity grids as little as 60 years ago were not set up to accommodate the huge demands such factories needed to function at full capacity, solutions such as this factory-owned steam plant were put in place. A coal furnace would once heat huge boilers which in return would power these turbines seen in the photos below.
Having seen a lot of dilapidated commercial real estate around the world, such pristine, large-scale rooms are of immense fascination to me, especially since it is so openly accessible with little to no damage done through looters or street-artists.
